Diana L. Morton, 63, of Newark, DE passed away in the comfort of her home with family and friends by her side on Thursday, September 7, 2017.

Born in Wilmington on November 20, 1953, Diana enjoyed a 16 year career as a Senior Account Analyst with HBCS, where she loved not only her work but her HBCS family.  She was frequently nominated to supply her delicious homemade desserts for various work functions.  Diana loved being in the kitchen baking, cooking and making her famous sangria.  She was happiest at large gatherings with family and friends where she displayed her creations for all to enjoy.  Diana always liked a good stroll through the New Castle Famers Market, with a little shopping mixed in, where everyone seemed to know her.  Being a lifelong beach goer, she made frequent trips to visit with family, enjoy the sand, and most recently relax at the Paradise Grill where she was introduced to grapefruit crushes.

Sadly, Diana was predeceased by her beloved husband and soulmate, Harry J. Morton Jr., who passed away on August 5, 2016.  She was also predeceased by her brother, Robert Thomas Wright; and her father, Anthony DeGirolano

Diana will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by her family and friends.  She is survived by her son, William “BJ” Vandever Jr and his recent bride, Mandi, who was affectionately referred to as “Baby Girl” by Harry and Diana; her mother, Nancy C. DeGirolano; her brothers, Anthony DeGirolano and wife, Patti, Gene DeGirolano and wife, Bonnie, James DeGirolano and wife, Leigh Ann, Joseph DeGirolano and wife, Marilyn; her sisters, Beatrice Clymer and husband, Don, Marcia Muddiman and husband, Alan, Pamela Mullins and husband, Scott, Jacqueline Wright; 12 nephews, 6 nieces; 3 great nephews, 6 great nieces.  Diana also leaves her beloved pets, Nia, Harley, Precious and four grand-puppies.

The family would like to thank the staff of Heartland Hospice for their care.  Through Heartland Hospice, Diana was given the opportunity to forge a special bond with her aide, Alicia, who embodies the spirit of hospice care – warmth, tenderness, compassion and understanding.  During her care, Diana grew to love Alicia, and the family is truly thankful for that.

BJ would like to offer special thanks to Linda Hughes-Uniatowski for everything she has done, not only for Diana, but for the entire family.  An unconditional friend to Diana, she remained always by her side and was her “rock”.  What she has done for BJ and Nancy can never be repaid.

Family and friends are invited to visit at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek on Wednesday, September 13 from 10:00-11:30AM, with funeral services immediately following.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Diana may be made to Heartland Hospice, the Helen Graham Cancer Center, an animal shelter of your choice, or any animal rescue effort due to the recent hurricanes.
