Claire Mattei Obituary

Claire Mattei, age 63, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, September 18,2018.

Claire was a devoted daughter, a wonderful wife, a loving mother, sister, aunt and a dear friend. She made her family a priority throughout her life. She was very active in her children's sports and volunteered for many school functions. She enjoyed antiquing, shopping, cooking, decorating her home and spending summers at the beach. She loved going to dinner at Valle Cucina and seeing Julie, Dean and all the wonderful people there. She had the unique gift of making anyone she met feel special with her listening ear and kind heart. Her greatest joy was being a grandmother to her granddaughter and guardian angel, Elsa, who, with her kind, compassionate and loving spirit, added many years to her life.

She is survived by the love of her life - her husband of 38 years, Gary; their children, Jordyn (Chris) and Greg; and grandchildren, Elsa, Charlie and Zoie. She is also survived by her siblings, Linda Talley, Vincent, Henry (Elaine), Dennis (Eileen), Stanley (Rebecca), Michael, and Anna Ruether (James);as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceeded in death by her parents, Edward and Linda Wierzbicki; and brothers Edward, John and Francis.

The family would like to extend a very heartfelt thank you to Terri and Jeff Michener, Anna and James Ruether and Linda Talley for their cards, texts, and delicious meals. We also thank many family and friends for their loving kindness, thoughts and prayers.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am on Tuesday, September 25, 2018, at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 7200 Lancaster Pike, Hockessin, DE 19707, where family and friends may visit beginning at 10:00am. Interment will be held privately with Claire’s family.
