Charles Beissel age 63 of Milton, DE passed away unexpectedly Thursday, May 3, 2018. Charles’s warm personality, ability to make people laugh, and frequent acts of kindness will be missed by all who knew him.
Charles was the youngest son of the late J. Fred and Mary Beissel. He grew up in Boothwyn, PA and graduated from St. James Catholic High School. He later attended the University of Dayton and University of Delaware. Charles began his career in 1973 at Diamond State Telephone Company and retired from Verizon in 2010.
In his retirement, Charles enjoyed spending time with family and friends, traveling, music, and working for Bayberry Flowers in Rehoboth Beach. Charles was an enthusiastic fan of Delaware Fightin’ Blue Hens’ football and the Philadelphia Eagles.
He was predeceased by his brothers John and George Beissel. Uncle Charles will be greatly missed by his nieces and nephews and by many friends, most of whom knew him as Charlie.
Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral service at Doherty Funeral Home located at 3200 Limestone Road, Wilmington, DE 19808 on Friday, May 18, at 11:00 am, where friends may visit after 10 am. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Yeadon, PA. A memorial gathering at the beach will be held at a later date.
Charles had a special devotion to dogs, especially bulldogs. In lieu of flowers, take your dog for a good, long walk and consider making a memorial donation to the Delaware Humane Society at 18675 Coastal Highway, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971.
Charles also supported the Ribbons and Rainbows Relay for Life team in Milford, DE to honor the friends and family members he lost to cancer (relay.acsevents.org).
