On Saturday, December 29, 2018, Betty Ganter, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away at the age of 87. Born and raised in Wilmington, Delaware, Betty was the daughter of the late Leo and Emma Cox.
Betty attended St. Paul’s grade school in Wilmington and graduated from Wilmington High in 1949. She started her career at The News Journal and then worked for many years at both Fairfax Bowling Alley and Silverside Lanes. Betty also became a professional bowler and bowled two perfect games. She was inducted into the Delaware Bowling Hall of Fame. Later in her life, Betty began working at Acme where she continued until her retirement in 2011 at age 80. To say that Betty was active is an understatement. She could always be found on the sidelines of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s sporting events giving advice and cheering them on.
Betty will be forever remembered by her son, Mike (Ruth), grandchildren Joe Malandruccolo (Jacqui), Danielle Stakel (Dave), Lindsey Mulvena (Pat), Michael II (Melanie), Alison Egolf, and Christina Wooten (Jim). She was also the beloved “Grammy” to all 20 of her great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her son Patrick, brother Bill, sister Natalie and sister Ann.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in memory of Betty on Saturday, January 5 at 10 am, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, 2013 Gilpin Avenue, Wilmington.
Memorial donations can be made to Nemours, 1600 Rockland Road, Wilmington, DE 19803.
