Richard A. Reed

Richard A. Reed, 83, of Wilmington, Delaware peacefully passed away in the comfort of his home, surrounded by love, on Wednesday, February 19, 2020.

Richard was born in Wilmington on January 12, 1937, son of the late Benjamin and Florence (McFall) Reed.  He was employed with Delmarva Power, having retired after 40 years of dedicated service.  He was a hardworking man and a talented “Jack of All Trades” who could accomplish any project.  An avid outdoorsman, Richard enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time at the beach.  He was also a big fan of country music, and was always happy to dance with his beloved Mary.  Richard deeply loved his family and was happiest when with them.  He had many cherished friends, as he touched the lives of many.  He will be tremendously missed and warmly remembered.

His wife, Mary (O’Connell) Reed, passed away on September 13, 2000.  Sadly, he was also predeceased by his daughter, Joan; his son-in-law, Robert Pettingill.

Richard is survived by his children, Denise Pettingill, Colleen Reed-Kern (Tom), Carol Simpers (Mike), Jenny Kreisher (Joe), Andrew Reed (Donna); 12 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren.

The family is forever grateful to Richard’s compassionate and loving caregivers.

Family and friends are invited to visit at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek on Tuesday, February 25 from 9:00-11:30AM.  Funeral services will begin at 11:30AM, immediately followed by interment in All Saints Cemetery.
