Lorene Herzig Obituary

Lorene Herzig, age 92 of Cadia Capitol Nursing Home, Dover, Delaware passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family at Kent General Hospital, Dover, Delaware on Saturday, February 15, 2020.

Born in Alabama on January 5, 1928, Lorene was the daughter of Cliff and Tamie Palmer, and sister of Elvin and Doyle Palmer, all deceased.

Lorene was a devoted wife and mother to six children who always put her family’s needs before her own.  She was non-judgmental and always supported each and every member of her family.  She was a very special person who was loved by all who met her.

She raised her children in Newport, Delaware, then moved to Dagsboro, Delaware to be near the beach when her husband, Jim retired.  She was a longtime resident of Marydale Retirement Village, Newark, Delaware, where she met her second husband, Richard.  They enjoyed many wonderful times together there.  She loved traveling throughout her life, loved music, singing, watching old Judy Garland movies, creating beautiful crocheted items, doing ceramics, playing pinochle, doing jigsaw puzzles, playing dominos and bingo.

Lorene was employed by the Red Clay School District for eight years as a cafeteria worker, but her biggest accomplishment besides her children was to earn her GED at age 66!  She did not graduate high school because she cared for her ailing mother, so for her own personal enrichment, she finally succeeded in a lifelong goal!

Lorene was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, James A. Williams and her husband of 18 years, Richard Herzig.  She was also preceded in death by her son, James Gary Williams (Peggy) of Naples, Florida and her daughter, Judy A. Williams of Cottage Grove, Oregon.  Lorene is survived by her son, Donald E. Williams (Patti) of Ocean View, Delaware; her daughter, Janice M. Naumann (Len) of Dover, Delaware; her son, Philip W. Williams of Smyrna, Delaware; her daughter, Pamela S. Lawton of New Philadelphia, Ohio; her step-children, Steven Herzig and Karen Hannah; 13 grandchildren; 1 step grandson; 19 great grandchildren.
