Ronald "Ronnie" Thompson Obituary

Ronald T. Thompson, age 68, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 3, 2018 with his loving family by his side.

Born and raised in Wilmington, DE, Ronnie was the son of the late Sonny Boy and Helen N. (Cormier) Thompson. He was a proud U.S. Marine Corps Veteran serving as a Lance Corporal during the Vietnam War with the Third Battalion under Lieutenant Colonel Oliver North. He was a life member of the Diamond State VFW Post #2863, as well as a member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV). In earlier years, Ronnie had been a First Class Fitter with Atco Steel for 14 years.

Family was the most important part of Ronnie’s life. He loved having the family together, especially spending time with his grandchildren. Ronnie enjoyed all holidays, especially Christmas, and during summer holidays you could find him happily at the grill making his special ribs.

Ronnie will be remembered for his unconditional love, who would do anything for anybody. He was a classic cool person with an ornery spirit and an amazing sense of humor. His favorite piece of advice was that “you need to be all you can be”.

In his leisure time, Ronnie loved to be outdoors, whether it was fishing, hunting or camping. He was quite the handyman, who could fix anything. Ronnie also enjoyed watching all sports, especially baseball and football. He could often be found hanging out at the Diamond State VFW Post shooting pool with his buddies. Ronnie was a history buff, who could answer any question you had about anything.

Ronnie is survived by his beloved wife of 22 years, “Micki” Margaret (Rentz) Thompson; his daughters, Tara Gomez (Constantino), Doreen Carroll (Jorge Martinez) and Erica Carroll (Tony Quiles); his seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren; his sons, Scott Swarter (Marianne), Chris Swarter (Jenn) and Keith Swarter (Emily); his three grandchildren; his sister, Linda Schiller (Steve); his niece, Melinda Wright and his nephew, Andrew Wright. He was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Sandra Pouser.
