Robert J. “Bob” Power went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, February 6, 2018. Bob was a committed Christian who believed in living the golden rule. An active member of Kingswood United Methodist Church, he was especially committed to missions projects.
Bob received a BS and Masters in Chemical engineering at Columbia University. In addition, earned his MBA at University of Delaware and completed all the course work for his PhD at George Washington University, but prioritized sharing his gifts instead of completing his final thesis.
Bob was able to use his blessings of Asperger’s during his 20 years at DuPont, utilizing his analytical mind to specialize in problem solving and handled 20 different assignments. He was able to find functional solutions and implement all the detailed steps to have productive results.
A gifted professor, Bob realized that teaching was his true calling while teaching business courses at Wilmington College Graduate Center. He also taught math and, for all he was a brilliant mathematician, he had the ability to explain problems from basic algebra to calculous in terms his students could understand. He also designed and wrote math text and work books that are in the process of being published to help many students beyond his direct reach. Bob was still tutoring at Wilmington University in December 2017. With his profound understanding of people and compassionate heart, he was able to encourage people in ways to bring out their full potential.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Florence Power; and step son, David Pedersen. Bob is survived by his wife of 33 years Ginny; sister, Jean Steinmetz (Bob); son, David Power; daughter, Elizabeth Power (Richard Emge); step daughter, Beth Dally (Mark); granddaughter, Katy Dally; grandson, Owen Emge; God chosen daughter, Lori Kraus Cornell and son, Jack Cornell; plus many nieces, nephews and cousins.
