Patricia Ann (Fowler) Barry passed away peacefully the morning of Friday, July 5, 2019 surrounded by her loved ones.
Pat was born March 17, 1940 to Curtis and Florine Fowler and grew up in Chester, Pennsylvania with her sister, Nancy. After graduating from Chester High School, Pat continued her education at the University of Delaware, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in Business and Economics in 1964. While attending the University of Delaware Pat met her husband, John and referred to their relationship as the All-American Story. Pat was a cheerleader and John was the captain of the Basketball team. They made many lifelong friends at UD and decided to make Newark, Delaware their home. Eventually they moved to Hockessin and raised their four children. Pat was a homemaker for the early years, so she had many jobs including chef, maid, doctor, chauffer, volunteer, monster chaser and the most rewarding title MOM.
Pat accepted a position at Blue Cross Blue Shield in the Actuary department, where she worked for 14 years. Once retired she and John enjoyed traveling to many different destinations. Her true happiness though came from being with her family, such as family beach weeks spent at their home in Fenwick Island and hosting her favorite holiday, Thanksgiving, with a big family dinner.
Pat was musical, had a passion for learning and was extremely social She played the recorder with a group that performed concerts at her church and other venues. She also played the bells at church services. She took many classes offered at the lifelong learning center through the University of Delaware. She enjoyed playing bridge, coffee dates and taking long walks with friends to catch up. Pat, AKA Grammy, was a faithful spectator for her grandchildren’s many sporting events, dance recitals, graduations and all their important life events.
The rest is History! 58 years of marriage and 7 grandchildren later Pat’s life was filled with love, laughter and many cherished memories. She will be truly missed.
Pat is survived by her husband, John S. Barry; her children: Beth M. Barry (Craig), Tricia M. Nowocin (Ray), Jack C. Barry (Beth) and Maureen N. Barry (Jeff); her beloved grandchildren: Rachel Nowocin, Caitlin Barry, Madison Keister, Samantha Barry, Alexa Nowocin, Kevin Keister and Kristin Keister; her sister, Nancy Anderson (Jim) of New Jersey; numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.
Our family would like to thank the nursing staff and doctors in the ICU department at Christiana Hospital for the amazing individualized and compassionate care they gave mom during this last week of her life.
