Nancy R. Sandberg, age 78, of Hockessin, DE, passed away peacefully at Cokesbury on Thursday, September 28, 2017 with her loving family by her side.

Born in Blue Earth, MN, Nancy was the daughter of the late Glenn and Mabel Root. She was a graduate of Blue Earth High School Class of 1957, where she was Salutatorian of her class. In 1961, Nancy graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in history from Hamline University, where she was a member of Philo Browning, Pi Gamma Mu and Kappa Phi. Over the years, Nancy had been employed or volunteered at elementary school, college, community and church libraries. She was a librarian at Ohio State University while her husband, Robert, was a student there. When they moved to Massachusetts, she was a librarian at Groton-Dunstable School District.

Nancy was very active volunteering in many activities at Grace Lutheran Church, which included helping with Family Promise, singing in the choir and the Koinonia book club. She was proud of her Swedish heritage and attended the Lucia Celebration every year. Nancy was a member of the Blue Rocks Ladies Chorus and the Museum Singers at the American Swedish Historical Museum in Philadelphia. Nancy and her husband also enjoyed spending time with their couples group called, “The Pisces Group”.

In her spare time, Nancy was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling all over, which included Alaska, Ireland and back to Sweden to visit relatives. In early years, many special memories were made during their travels back home for family reunions in Minnesota, as well as cross country family vacations. She was also an avid Ohio State Buckeyes fan.

Family was the center of Nancy’s world. She treasured spending time with her children and grandchildren. Nancy will be remembered for her sweet and kind heart, who was loved by anyone who was lucky to have met her.

Nancy was predeceased by her loving husband of 50 years, Robert G. Sandberg; her son, Mark Sandberg; her parents and her sister, Mary Helen Root. She is survived by her son, Kurt Sandberg (Amy); her daughter, Sarah Alexander (Cary); and five grandchildren, Katie Natelli (Rich), Holly Sandberg (Cameron Coleman), Riley and Mary Helen Alexander; and Robert Sandberg.

The family would like to thank the staff at Cokesbury for their loving care of Nancy.
