Gerald J. Sheehan

Gerald J. Sheehan, age 92, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 14, 2018.

Gerald was born in Wilmington, son of the late Jeremiah and Julia (Carr) Sheehan. He married Miriam Pinkerton on December 3, 1948 in St. Thomas the Apostle Church. Miriam preceded Gerald in death on April 2, 2010, after 62 years of marriage.

Gerald was very proud of being a Teamster for many years. He also worked at Wilmington Provisions, where he could always tell us the best piece of meat to buy; and ultimately retired from Air Products. He enjoyed his days at Bethany Beach and eating crabs.

He is survived by his daughter, Kathleen Wisniewski (John); his sons, David (Diane), Gerald, Barry (Susan), and Thomas (Cathy); his sisters, Elizabeth Skiles and Catherine Malone; his grandchildren, Luke (Sheryl), John (Jennifer), Joshua (Claire), Matthew (Amy), Jennifer (Matt), Kimberly (Shawn), and Brian (Robin); and 17 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and his beloved wife, Gerald was preceded in death by his brothers, John, William and Martin.

Gerald’s family wishes to thank the nurses, staff and breakfast friends at the Lorelton, and the staff of Compassionate Care Hospice.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30am on Monday, May 21, 2018, at St. Elizabeth’s Church, Cedar and Clayton Streets, Wilmington, DE 19805, where family and friends may visit beginning at 10:30am. Interment will be held in Cathedral Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Gerald’s memory can be made to St. Elizabeth’s Church, 809 S. Broom Street, Wilmington, DE 19805.
