James John Henry, Sr. (Jim), 89, of Wilmington, DE, died April 4, 2024, surrounded by his family. He was born September 4, 1934, eldest child of the late James H. and Jennie Henry.
Jim attended St. Mathew’s school and graduated from Salesianum School. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. Upon his honorable discharge he returned home to co-operate Henry Bros. Auto Body in Stanton, where he worked until a medical disability forced his retirement in 1989.
Jim was a sportsman, particularly enjoying golf, fishing, and hunting. He found great happiness in family vacations, family time at the beach, and spontaneous road trips.
Most of all, Jim had great love for and took extreme pride in his family. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by his devoted wife of 67 years, Catherine (Episcopo); his children, James Jr. (Lydia), Brian (Melissa), and Cathy, who provided loving care to him in his final days; his grandchildren, Erica (Christopher Atchison), Elliot, Rebecca (David Emig), Brian Jr., Emily, Clare, and Andrew; his cherished great-grandchildren, Rose and James, who gave him the moniker “Big Poppop”; and his granddog, Sidney.
Jim was predeceased by his beloved grandson, James III; and his granddog, Rusty.
In accord with Jim’s wishes, a Mass of Christian Burial and interment at All Saints Cemetery will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Jim’s memory to Salesianum School, 1801 N. Broom St., Wilmington, DE 19802.
