William H (Bill) Hassall

William H. (Bill) Hassall, Jr., age 96, of Wilmington, DE passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 15, 2015.

Bill was a Chemical Engineering graduate of the New Jersey Institute of Technology in Newark, NJ and a registered Professional Engineer in DE. He was employed by Union Carbide Corp. at Marietta, OH. Bill then went on to work for the DuPont Company, retiring in 1980 after 25 years of service.

Bill was a veteran of WWII, having seen active duty as a commissioned officer in Morocco, Tunisia, Corsica, Sardinia, Italy, France and Germany.

He was a charter member of Limestone Presbyterian Church. Bill was a Master Mason member and Past Master of Solomon Lodge # 36 A.F.& A.M. of Newark, a Knight Templar member of St. John’s Commandry # 1 and a 32^nd degree member of Delaware Consistory, Scottish Rite Masons. He served on the executive board of the Dickinson Theater Organ Society. His favorite pastime was telling clean funny stories and jokes. He greatly enjoyed making people laugh.

Bill was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Ann and grandson, Brian Trivette. He is survived by his children, James C. Hassall, II (Cherie) of Blacksburg, VA, Judith H. Wuthnow (Gregory) of Hockessin, Patricia Bannon (John), Hockessin, Alan S. Hassall (Vikie) Roanoke, VA, 11 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 22 at 10:30 am at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Rd., Pike Creek, where friends may visit from 9:30-10:30 am. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Limestone Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, 3201 Limestone Rd., Wilmington, DE 19808 or a favorite charity.
