William Bordas Obituary

William “Bill” Bordas, age 91, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, February 14, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. Born and raised in Charleston, West Virginia, Bill’s colorful childhood eventually led him to enlist in the United States Navy at the age of 17, and served in the Pacific Theater during World War II. Upon discharge, Bill attended Morris Harvey College, now known as Charleston University. There he served as the President of the Student Council, inspiring others through word and deed. He was also one of Morris Harveys’ top basketball players, as people enjoyed watching “Rosie” Bill Bordas’ moves on the court. Bill’s remarkable memory and ability to tell vivid stories, enabled him to entertain family and friends with his enlivened stories from his past.

Upon graduation, Bill married the love of his life, Mary Lou Kennedy. They were married 58 years before she passed away in 2009. Bill and Mary Lou had six children and moved to Wilmington, Delaware in 1961, where Bill remained for the rest of his life. Bill was a devoted father and husband who provided a loving foundation for his children to grow. Bill’s family expanded to include 14 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, whom he loved as he brought great joy into their lives. He greatly enjoyed time with his family!

Bill was able to provide for his family by engaging in a successful career at the Federal Housing Administration, where he was known for his integrity and intellect. He eventually retired early and became a successful businessman. This also allowed him the opportunity to engage in things he loved, such as: golfing, becoming a Florida “snowbird” and betting the horses. He was a Philadelphia sports fan, and was able to enjoy the Eagles first Super Bowl win.

Bill considered himself blessed to have lived such a long and fulfilling life. He enjoyed life to the fullest and never gave up on himself or anyone around him. He was an exceptional man. Indeed, Bill had a “good run”. A sincere thanks to Delaware Hospice for their support in helping him live gracefully even as his health declined.

Bill is survived by his children, Stephen C. Bordas, Lou Ann Carlson and her husband Arthur, Nancy Eisenhardt and her husband Michael, Linda Lonergan and her husband Bruce, Edward A. Bordas and his wife, Heather along with their children and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lou Bordas; his eldest son, William J. Bordas, Jr.; and his grandson, Eric William Carlson.
