Stephen P. Zane went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 1, 2016 at the age of 76 at home with his wife.

He was born in Wilmington, DE to the late Stephen and Elizabeth Zajonczkowski.

Steve was a graduate of St. Peter’s School in New Castle and was very proud of his service in the United States Navy.  He was employed as an office clerk with General Motors and retired after 27 years at the Boxwood Road Plant.  Steve was a member of St. John the Beloved Parish for many years, and was also a member of the American Legion.

Steve was a musician, having played in his father’s band and later with other bands in the area.  He played the piano, bass, accordion and was a great singer with a beautiful voice.    Steve had a love for family, boating, going to the beach house in Fenwick Island, the ocean, his garden, eating out (he loved spaghetti!) and family dinners at Lisa’s house.  He was a faithful Eagles fan, even when he was angry with them.  Steve was a kind and quiet man with a gentle soul, yet strong.  He had a good disposition and was very funny.  Steve was liked by everyone who knew him and will be sadly missed.

A special mention of his favorite uncle, Bill, whom he dearly missed.

Steve is survived by his wife, with whom has been for 34 years, Rachel E. (Heath) Zane; his dog, Mia, who was his best friend and baby (Mee-Mee); his step children, Lisa Smith (George) and Jeffrey Smith (Michelle); his children, Stephen, David (Wende), Lisa, and Debbie Ament (Jim); and his grandsons, Jordan Smith and Logan Ament.

Steve and Rachel were inseparable.  They did everything together.  She will love and miss him for the rest of her life, until they are together again.

Friends are invited to visit at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek on Tuesday, May 10 from 10:30-11:30AM.  Funeral services will begin at 11:30AM, with interment to follow in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, his family requests that you please plant something in your garden in memory of Steve.
