Stephen J. Slavish

Having fought a courageous battle with cancer as hard as he fought his disabilities since he was 17 years old, Stephen J. Slavish, 64 of Wilmington, DE passed away peacefully on Friday, July 28, 2017, at Heartland Hospice House with loved ones by his side, holding his hand.

Steve was born in Lewistown, PA on May 15, 1953. He graduated from John Dickinson High School and went to work at Hewlett Packard/Agilent Technologies where he was a loyal employee for 37 years before retiring.

Steve was an avid Phillies and Eagles fan and followed them faithfully for years. He loved going to Absalom Jones Senior Center where he made many wonderful friends. He also enjoyed traveling, especially cruising. He was always up for a new adventure and never allowed his disabilities to get in the way. Steve especially looked forward to going to the movies with his favorite person, his nephew, Michael John Alpaugh, with whom he had a very special relationship.

Steve is preceded in death by his parents, John J. and Betty M. Slavish; brothers, Joseph M. Slavish and Gerard M. Slavish. He is survived by brothers, John M. Slavish (Pat), William P. Slavish, and Robert T. Slavish (Sue); sisters, Jane M. Kucharski and Mary Anne Beaman.

The family would like to acknowledge the skilled and loving care of the doctors and nurses at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Christiana Care and Heartland Hospice House.

Friends and family are invited to visit on Friday, August 4, 2017 from 5:00PM until 7:00PM at Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Rd., Wilmington, DE 19808 where his funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 5, 2017 at 10:00AM. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE 19808.
