Sandra A. Schmidt, 82, of West Grove, PA passed away in the comfort of her home on Saturday, July 8, 2017.
Sandra was born in Dover, NJ on January 6, 1935, daughter of the late A.G. and Bertha (Fritz) Williams. She was a 1952 graduate of Roxbury High School, a 1955 graduate of Newark School of Fine and Industrial Arts, and a 1989 graduate of Virginia State University, where she earned a degree in Education. Sandra enjoyed her career as a teacher at parochial schools in NJ, DE, VA and MD. She was an accomplished artist as well as an avid reader. Sandra was a member of the American Women’s Club of Waterloo, Belgium, and the American Women’s Club of Wilmington, DE. Above all, Sandra loved her family and extended network of friends.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, John Williams and her sister, Yvonne McPherson.
Sandra is survived by her husband of 60 years, Ronald E. Schmidt; her brother, Joseph Williams (Barbara) of Mine Hill, NJ and her sister, Kathryn Williams of Williamsburg, VA; her children, Karen Thompson (Jim) of Landenberg, PA, Scott Schmidt (Janice) of Durham, NC, Amy Westerman (Eric) of Alexandria, VA, Raymond Schmidt (Jennifer) of Chesterfield, VA; six grandchildren, numerous loving nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to visit at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek on Thursday, July 13 from 5:00-7:00PM. An additional visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday, July 14 from 9:30-11:00AM, with a Catholic funeral service immediately following. Interment will be held privately.
