Rodney A. Lambert, Sr.

Rodney A. Lambert, Sr., 75 of Wilmington, DE peacefully passed away at his home on Tuesday, April 18, 2017.   Born in Joliet, IL on October 21, 1941, Rodney was the son of the late Edward W. and G. Ethelyn (Shoemaker) Lambert.  Rod received his education from Mount Pleasant High School and the University of Maryland.  He spent 36 years working for the DuPont Company at the Experimental Station, retiring in 2002. 

Rod was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who loved finding ways to bring his family together for holidays and beach weeks.  He had a special fondness for horse racing, especially reveling in the times, as a horse owner, he made it to the winners' circle.  After successfully competing as a high school and college track star, he devoted his life to coaching all events of high school track & field and cross-country, winning numerous awards.  He served these sports in Delaware in various capacities for many decades of his life.

Rodney is survived by his wife of 52 years, Karen (Kendall) Lambert; his sons, Rodney A. Jr. and wife, Lorraine, Richard K. and wife, Maria, Randall A. and wife, Anna; his grandchildren, Victoria, Caroline, Bryant, William, Reese, Ryan, Rory, Ridley, and Grace; and his brother, Ward and wife, Sally.

In addition to his parents, Rodney was predeceased by his grandson, Ryland.

A visitation will be held at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek on Tuesday, April 25 from 5:00-7:00PM.  Funeral services will be held at Brandywine Valley Baptist Church, 7 Mount Lebanon Road, Wilmington on Wednesday, April 26 at 10:00AM.  Interment will be held privately in Gracelawn Memorial Park.
