Robert Dale Brendle, Sr., 86, of Wilmington, Delaware passed away on Sunday, January 7, 2018 with his family at his side.
Born in Guyencourt, Dale was the son of the late Roby and Grace (Sumner) Brendle. He was a graduate of A.I. DuPont High School and Goldey-Beacom College. Dale served our country during the Korean War in the United States Navy, having been stationed aboard the USS Bushnell. He was employed with the DuPont Company for more than 30 years, and following his retirement Dale worked for Walker’s Florist and Flowers By Yukie until permanently retiring in 2016.
Dale loved nothing more than spending time with his wife and family. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, and watching his favorite teams, the Phillies and Eagles. He especially enjoyed spending time with his cousins every year at the Outer Banks.
Dale is survived by his high school sweetheart, Betty (Cannon) Brendle, with whom he shared 65 years of marriage; his sons, Robert D. Brendle, Jr. (Patti) and Richard C. Brendle; his grandchildren, Jennifer (Joseph) Hiester, Amanda, Shelbi, Cassie, Caitlyn, Chelsea and Sarah; his sister, Mary Ruth (Brendle) Emmerson; his brother-in-law, Bill Cannon (Joan); many nieces and nephews.
A viewing will be held at Lower Brandywine Church, 101 Old Kennett Pike, Wilmington on Monday, January 15 from 10:00-11:00AM. Funeral services will begin at 11:00AM, followed by interment in Gracelawn Memorial Park.
