I just learned about Fr.’s death. In 1972 when I couldn’t find a priest to marry Dennis and me on short notice (He was active duty Navy) Fr. Reissmann agreed to perform that wedding. 47 years later we are still so grateful. His name always comes up in our beautiful courtship story.
When my mother was dying, I called for him to do the Mass for her, but he was having knee surgery.
And just recently learned about his involvement in Voice of the Faithful. Such a brave priest!

I was a classmate of Richard when we both studied for the paulist fathers. Richard joined the diocese oh Wilmington. I joined the diocese of Raleigh, NC. Now retired from diocese of Charlotte. Richard was a special friend and I know that he was a great priest. I regret that I did not visit him in Florida. My prayers are for his family. I knew his family- brother, sister, mother and father in Fair Lawn, NJ. Peace

Fr. Richard was a brave and kind pastoral leader who offered solace to those who had been impacted in any way by priest sex abuse (and all the faithful were !) His services of reconciliation and forgiveness started a healing process for those who came and we would be so much further on our way to healing as a Church if they were being repeated in many places. A pastor and a leader, his love for the people is returned. Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord.

I will always be grateful to Father for visiting my mother when she was in the hospital dying of melanoma. I called the rectory one evening asking that Father Richard visit my mother in the hospital as she wanted him to come. I assumed he would visit the the next day. To my surprise he must have gone as soon as he received the message. My mother told me of his visit the next day when I saw her. Rest in Peace Father I know your visit meant alot to mom and me.

We just found out about our dear one, Father Reissmann's, death.
Had he been ill? Does anyone know what took this earthly saint

Thank you so much!

My condolences to all VOTF members. Richard was a very brave men and the only priest in DE who stood up for what is right. For that he suffered. May he rest in peace.
I will be out of town and unable to attend his service, but would like to be there. My thoughts and prayers will be with all of you.

What a special man he was. He touched the lives of everyone in our family. He is now singing "Eagle's Wings" where it deserves to be sung loudly.
