Phillips Shaw Boyd

Phillips Shaw Boyd, age 80, of Hockessin, DE, passed away on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 in the comfort of his home with his loving wife at his side.

Phil was born in Swedesboro, NJ, son of the late Phillips Lloyd and Bertha Shaw Boyd. Raised in Pennsville, NJ, Phil graduated from Pennsgrove Regional High School and Washington College in Chestertown, MD.

His 38 year professional career with DuPont was in accounting, sales and financial analysis at the Chestnut Run, Boston, and downtown Wilmington locations.

Retirement was a joy for him as he and Pat traveled pursuing nature-oriented activities in New England. He often could be found volunteering with the DE Center for Horticulture and PA Horticulture Society at the Philadelphia Flower Show. A great source of entertainment was their treasured home garden, where he enjoyed gardening, observing the visiting wildlife and relaxing in the serenity of that setting.

Phil’s warm smile, quick wit, and genuine nature endeared him to many. He was a good, caring man who provided love and support to family and friends through the years. Fiercely protecting his health, he ran almost daily for 35 years until his Parkinson’s disease diagnosis. He pushed himself to remain active as long as possible and never lost his kind and gracious manner.

The outstanding and compassionate support and care of Delaware Hospice allowed Phil the privilege and comfort of remaining home throughout his illness.

Phil is survived by his devoted wife of 50 years, Patricia Slavin Boyd; his brother, Robert Dale Boyd and wife, Jean of Bonita Springs, FL; brother, Alan Thomas Boyd of St. John, USVI; niece, Carolyn Tilghman Boyd Eichler and husband, Jeffrey, and their children, Finley, Beckett, and Anson, all of Palmyra, VA; nephew, Phillips Snowdon Boyd and his wife, Catherine, and their children, Sedah and Callum of Chester, MD; and his sister-in-law, Helen Slavin Howell of Wilmington, DE.

At Phil’s request there will be no service.
