Mary Ann Drummond, age 89, passed away peacefully on June 20, 2016 with her loving daughter by her side. Born in Amherst, VA, Mary Ann was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry H. Dodd.
Mary Ann believed strongly in education and urged others to continually strive to reach their full potential. Known to many as “Mrs. Drummond” or “Mrs. D,” her various jobs connected her with people from all walks of life. She always embraced the opportunity to help those with whom she came in contact.
In past years, Mary Ann was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church in Newark, Delaware, where she was a Deaconess and worked with the youth. While living in West Virginia, she was involved with the Cub Scouts and served as a Den Mother when her son was younger.
Throughout her life, Mary Ann had a passion for gardening and looked forward to planting flowers each spring. She also loved the theater and music, which culminated in many memorable mother-daughter excursions to Broadway musical performances.
Mary Ann enjoyed visiting her family throughout Virginia and relaxing at Virginia Beach. In addition, she was attracted by the peace and calm of the Chesapeake Bay and spent many happy vacations in St. Michaels, Maryland.
As a devoted mother who led by example, with a strong will, determination, and sense of humor, her recipe for life was as follows:
Be gracious
Be generous
Be considerate
Be happy
And, above all else, be yourself!
Mary Ann is survived by her son, Charles Frederick Drummond of Virginia Beach, VA; her daughter, Jane Elizabeth Drummond of Newark, DE; her brother, George E. Dodd of Virginia Beach, VA; as well as several nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, June 27, at 11 a.m. at Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Wilmington, DE 19808.
