Mary Catherine (Donohoe) Mehl

Mary Catherine Mehl, “Kate”, age 83 of Wilmington, passed away peacefully on March 26, 2015. She was born on May 30, 1931, the daughter of the late James and Marie (Weatherby) Donohoe.

Kate graduated from Wilmington High School in 1950, and went on to work for Bank of Delaware/PNC Bank for over 30 years.

Kate was an avid reader, enjoyed gardening and taking long walks around the neighborhood. She was a lifelong fan of the Delaware beaches, where she enjoyed many vacations with her family & friends. She was an active member & chairwoman of her high school reunion committee, and she also loved taking trips to Atlantic City and Las Vegas with her husband. Above all else, Kate loved nothing more than spending time with her family, especially her granddaughters. She was sweet and sassy, and had a fantastic sense of humor. To know Kate was to love her, and she will be dearly missed by her family and all who knew her.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, William; her daughter, Kathleen Mashington (Thomas); and granddaughters, Ashley Mashington and Taylor SantaCruz, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughters, Patti Mehl and Lisa SantaCruz; her step-father, Raymond Jenkins and her sister, Marian Murray.

The family would like to thank Compassionate Care Hospice, especially Dr. D, Tiffany, Linda and the nurses & staff on the 6th floor.

A visitation will be held from 6:00pm – 8:00pm on Monday, March 30, 2015 at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Wilmington, DE 19808. A memorial service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at 10:00am. Inurnment will follow in Cathedral Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making contributions to the American Cancer Society, 92 Reads Way, New Castle, DE 19720.
