Lillian Beeson Treut, 94, of Newark, DE, passed away on Tuesday, December 19, 2017, following a short illness.

She was the sixth of seven children born to the late Harvey and Ethel Hesh Beeson.

Lillian was a 1941 graduate of Newark High School and worked in baking during WWII, as she waited for her future husband, George Treut to return. He served in the 15th Army Air Corps, 459th Bomber Group, surviving 50 combat missions, 2 crash landings, and 1 year as POW before returning to Lillian. They married, had 3 sons, Stephen, Martin, and Brian, and were together for 60 years until George’s passing in 2005.

Lillian was a stay at home Mom until her boys got older and then worked in the University of Delaware Morris Library, retiring at the age of 62. She and George then enjoyed quiet times together; traveling to reunions of the 459th Bomber and POW Groups, and watching their children and grandchildren grow.

In her later years, Lillian thoroughly enjoyed the arrival of her great-grandchildren – becoming “GG Mom” to them. She also loved monthly lunch gatherings with her brother, Rowland, sister-in-law Dot, and beloved nieces, Pam (Victor) and Sally (Terry). She also cherished visits and calls from her niece, Mary Alice and many additional nieces and nephews.

Lillian was an avid reader and maintained her sharp mind – usually coming up with Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune answers faster than anyone else in the room.

All who know Lillian loved her and could see her inner beauty, her intelligence and strength, and above all, her deep kindness.

In addition to her beloved husband, George, she was preceded in death by her 3 sisters and 2 brothers.

She is survived by her 3 sons; brother, Ro (Dot); brother-in-law, Donald; 4 grandchildren, Dana, Kelly, Stephen Michael and Michael; 7 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, December 28, 2017 in the chapel of Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Highway, New Castle, DE 19720, where family and friends may visit beginning at 10:00am. Interment will be held in the adjoining cemetery.
