Kathryn Ann (McClain) Handlin

Kathryn A. (McClain) Handlin, age 78 of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 25, 2015, with her family by her side.

She was born in West Chester, PA on August 12, 1936, the daughter of the late William and Marie (Fitzgerald) McClain.

Kathryn worked as an administrative assistant at Hercules but dedicated most of her time and effort to raising her family.

She liked to knit and read and enjoyed family trips to Cape May in the summer. She loved spending time with her family and especially cherished her grandchildren.

Kathryn is survived by her beloved husband, William Handlin; her children, Bill Handlin and his wife, Tina, Jeanmarie Walsh and her husband, Jack, Sean Handlin and his wife, Gina, and Mary Kay Wilson and her husband, Doug; her grandchildren, Billy, Jenny, Michael, Ryan, Lindsey, Kelsey, Kara, Matt, Erin, Caitlin and DJ; her sisters, Sally Street and her husband, Raymond, Molly Dixon and her husband, Joe, and Peggy Burkenstock, as well as several nieces, nephews and extended members of the family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Jimmy, Bill and Jack McClain; her sister, Teeny O’Connor; and her grandson, Christopher Wilson.

Family and friends are invited to visit at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Wilmington, DE 19808 from 5:00 – 7:00pm on Thursday, January 29, 2015 and from 9:30 – 10:30am on Friday, January 30, 2015. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am on Friday, January 30, 2015 at St. John the Beloved Church, 907 Milltown Road, Wilmington, DE 19808. Committal services will follow in the chapel at All Saints Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, Kathryn’s family suggests making contributions to Mom’s House Inc, 1718 Howland Street, Wilmington, DE 19805 or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, PO Box 1893, Memphis, TN 38101.
