Kathleen D. (Johnson) Sammons

Kathleen D. Sammons, 57, of Wilmington, DE, passed away at home on Saturday, September 16, 2017. She was born in Wilmington, daughter of the late George and Lavenia (McCafferty) Johnson.

Kathy was a graduate of Conrad High School where she played the flute for the marching band. She went on to enjoy a successful career as a purchase manager, first in fashion retail with Strawbridge’s and later with Disney.

She enjoyed spending time at the beach, collecting antiques, and enjoyed a nice glass of wine. Kathy was one of the friendliest and outgoing people you’d ever have the pleasure of meeting. She could strike up and hold a conversation with just about anyone, and her warm and welcoming personality was very endearing to those who knew her. To Kathy, her friends were family, and her children’s friends were family and she cherished nothing more than surrounding herself with the people she loved, especially her grandchildren. Affectionately known as “Mom-mom”, her grandchildren were her world.

Kathy is survived by her husband, Chuck Sammons; her children, Sean McCullin (Rachel) and Beth Wardell (John); stepchildren, Chuckie and Amanda Sammons; her grandchildren, Taylor, Alexis, Abby, Connor, Joseph, Keira, Gracie, Jacob and Kaylee; her 3 sisters, Patricia Riley (Harold); Lavenia Hughto (John) and Carol McCloud (John); her mother-in-law, Nancy Sammons; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Frannie and Joanne, Ann and Scott, Mike and Kathy, Joe and Holly, and Sara and Perry.

A memorial service will be held at 12:00pm on Thursday, September 21, 2017 at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Wilmington, DE 19808. Family and friends may visit beginning at 10:00am.
