Joseph T. BonkowskiMarch 7, 1923 ~ December 25, 2017 (age 94)
Joseph T. Bonkowski, 94, peacefully passed away on Monday, December 25, 2017.
Born in Wilmington, Delaware on March 7, 1923, he was the son of the late Joseph and Mary (Skibicki) Bonkowski. Joe was a veteran of World War II, having served in the E.T.O. with the Fifth Army in Italy, and the Seventh Army in France and Germany. He also fought in the Battle of the Bulge. For his service, Joe was awarded the Bronze Star. He was employed with the United States Postal Service and retired after 35 years as a postal supervisor in the mailing division.
Joe was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Florence (Lukas) Bonkowski; his grandson, Jesse V. Bonkowski; his sisters, Margaret Cocciolone, Barbara Margarita and Ann Bonkowski; his brothers, Edward, Thomas, Frank and John Bonkowski.
Joe is survived by his daughter, Nancy Urban of MD; his sons, Joseph of Rehoboth Beach, DE and Robert of Locust, NC; his grandson, Robert Joseph of NC; his sisters, Geraldine Bove and Marie Episcopo, both of FL.
Family and friends are invited to visit at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek on Wednesday, January 10 from 10:30-11:30AM. Funeral services will begin at 11:30AM, followed by interment in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Joe may be made to the Anuvia Prevention and Recovery Center, 100 Billingsley Road, Charlotte, NC 28211.
