John Joseph (Jack) Healy

Jack Healy peacefully left this life on Saturday, November 18, 2017 surrounded by his family.

Jack was born on July 11, 1931 in Wilmington, the son of John J. Healy, Jr. and Mildred Cohee Healy. He attended Saint Matthews School, Salesianum School and Conrad High School. A member of the US Naval Reserves and Seabees, he became an apprentice electrician in the late 1940’s and worked as a union electrician with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 313. At the time of his death he was the most senior member of the union.

Jack loved fishing and any weekend you could find him on his boat sweet-talking the crabs and fish with his mantra, “Come on fishies; I’m Irish, I’m Irish.” He was happiest when surrounded by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren at the beach, on the boat or at home.

Jack was predeceased by his son J. Patrick Healy and sisters, Dorothy and Joyce. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Patricia Vickars Healy, daughter, Kathleen Healy Vavala (Phil), and grandchildren, Kathleen M. Vavala, Phillip J. Vavala (Kate), Erin Sandlhauser (Marc), Meghan Diana (David) and Kate Healy (Brian Fecondo) and eleven great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 o’clock on Friday, November 24, 2017 at Saint John the Beloved Church, 907 Milltown Rd. Friends may call at 9:30 at the church. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jack’s name to your favorite charity.
