John F. Lento

John F. Lento, age 90, of Wilmington, DE peacefully passed away at his home surrounded by family and friends on Friday, January 23, 2015.

John was born in Brooklyn, New York on December 18, 1924, son of the late John and Mary (Alliegro) Lento.  A veteran of the United States Army Air Corps, he proudly served our country during World War II, having been stationed in the Pacific Theatre as a nose gunner on a B24 Liberator with the 380th Bomb Group.  Upon his honorable discharge, John worked in his family’s restaurant business in Manhattan before relocating to Delaware in 1956.  He had a successful career as an automobile salesman for more than 50 years.  John was a member of St. John the Beloved Parish and the Ionic Lodge #31 A.F & A.M.  He enjoyed trips to Atlantic City and Delaware Park, playing cards with his faithful poker group and preparing delicious Italian meals for his family and friends.

John will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 57 years, Dolores “Dee” (Masiello) Lento; his sons, Michael (Lisa) and Christopher (Tammy); his daughters, Kim Sullivan (Terry) and Johna Lento; his grandchildren, Tara, Seana, Danny, Chase, Alexia, Alyssa, Ashley, Angelo, Linzy and Julia; and his great grandchildren, Brandon, Ty, Mary, Ryan, Summer, Mia, Maggie, Daniel, Patrick, Abigail and Jordyn.  He is also survived by his sister, Josephine Cashman; his sister-in-law, Marie Masiello; his niece, Barbara Palmer; and his nephew, John Kurek.

John was predeceased by his brother-in-law, Richard Masiello.

Family and friends are invited to visit at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek on Wednesday, January 28 from 12:00-2:00PM.  Funeral services will begin at 2:00PM, with interment following in All Saints Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of John may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of Delaware, 240 N. James Street, Suite 100A, Wilmington, DE 19804.
