Jean E. (Fritz) Getz

Jean E. Getz, age 90, of Wilmington, DE passed away on May 18th, 2016. Her passing was peaceful and quiet, just as she had lived. Born in Benton, PA, she was the youngest of 10 children and the daughter of the late Bruce and Erma (Cole) Fritz.

After graduating from Benton High school, Jean continued her education and became a licensed beautician. During this time she also married her High School Sweetheart, Elmer W. Getz and started a family. After a few years Jean and Elmer moved to Delaware and she became a homemaker. She loved to cook and bake, and was well known for her famous sticky buns.

Jean also had a green thumb and was passionate about caring for her many plants and flowers. She loved her dogs and cats and also enjoyed bird watching from her kitchen window. She made many trips with the family including driving to California, Hatteras Island, Canada and Alaska.

Jean will be dearly missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, Elmer W. Getz; her son, Michael E. Getz (Dayna); her daughters, Cynthia J. Popovich (David) and Lisa E. DiStefano (Brian); her grandchildren, Michael Popovich (Amie), Sara Bushey (John), Dean Popovich (Jackie), Matthew Getz, and Kevin Getz; and 7 great grandchildren, as well as a sister, Betty Kile. She was predeceased by her 5 brothers, 3 sisters, and great granddaughter, Mabel Popovich.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 26 from 1PM to 2PM at Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Rd., Wilmington, DE 19808, where a Time of Remembrance of Jean's Life will begin at 2PM.

The family would like to thank everyone at Genesis Healthcare Center, especially Carly and Pam. The family would also like to thank Jen and Janet from Compassionate Care Hospice for their care and support.
