James L. ("Pop") Masella

James L. Masella, 63, of Hockessin, DE passed away surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, February 2, 2016.

Jim was born in Staten Island, NY on February 12, 1952, son of the late Anthony and Ann Masella.  He began his career in banking with J.P. Morgan and retired as a project manager from Citibank.   He was a passionate golfer and member of Deerfield Golf Club.  Jim also played baseball and softball during his school years.  He was an avid New York Yankees and Giants fan. 

Affectionately known as “Pop” by many, Jim was a loving and devoted husband,  father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle and friend.  He was a generous man with a big heart, and if you were having a bad day, he would find a way to make you smile.  Jim cherished time with his family, with Christmas being his favorite holiday.  He was proud of his New York roots and especially enjoyed good New York style food.  When work brought Jim to Delaware, he raised his three boys here and made it his home.

Jim will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Clair Aiello Masella; his sons, Brian and wife, Tiffany, Dennis and wife, Aimee and Matthew; and his beloved grandchildren, Haley, Jacob, Anthony, Ashley and Anna.  He is also survived by his sister, Karen Gray and husband, Bob; his niece, Donna; his sister-in-law, Annette Trzeciakiewicz and husband, Mike; his niece, Patricia and husband, Chris; his nephew, Michael; his great nephews, Christopher, Michael, Jason and Luke; his brother-in-law, Nick; and his nephews, Nicholas and fiancee, Judy and Timothy and wife, Rosa.

Family and friends are invited to the visitation at Resurrection Parish, 3000 Videre Drive, Wilmington, DE 19808 on Saturday, February 6 from 10:00AM-11:45AM.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00PM.  Interment will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Jim may be made to Heartland Hospice House, 5661 Ocheltree Lane, Wilmington, DE 19808.
