Hilda A. (Handlin) Ambrose

Hilda A. Ambrose, age 86, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 18, 2018.

She was born in Wilmington, daughter of the late William and Ellen (Winnington) Handlin. In addition to raising her family, Hilda worked at Christiana Hospital, St. Francis Hospital and Brinton’s Flowers.

Hilda loved playing bingo, reading and cherished “game night” – whether playing cards, Yahtzee or other board games. Above all else, she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughters, Fran Wardell (Dave Aukamp) and Ellen Potter (Michael);   her grandchildren, Tia, Shawn, PJ and Summer Ambrose and Robert Wardell; her great-grandchildren, Alex, Alyssa, and Aston; as well as many members of her extended family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank and her son, Bill Ambrose.

Hilda’s family would like to thank the staff of Compassionate Care Hospice during this difficult time.

Family and friends are invited to visit from 5:00 – 7:00pm on Monday, April 23, 2018 at the Doherty Funeral Home, 1900 Delaware Avenue, Wilmington, DE 19806. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am on Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, 2013 Gilpin Avenue, Wilmington, DE 19806. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery.
