Gerald Joseph Mulvena

Gerald Joseph Mulvena, age 71, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 10, 2018, surrounded by his family.

Born and raised in Wilmington, DE, Gerr was the son of the late Mary M. and Francis J. Mulvena.

Gerr attended St. Paul's grade school in Wilmington and graduated from Salesianum High School in 1964. He attended college at St. Edward's University in Austin, TX, graduating in 1969. He served in the US Army from 1969 to 1971 where he was a Surgical Medic. He then began his career with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Delaware until 2002.

He was an avid family man who was very proud of his Irish heritage. He even traveled to Ireland twice. He loved Notre Dame and St. Patrick's Day. Most enjoyable are the times spent with his wife, daughters, and grandchildren. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, brother in law, and uncle who was truly loved by all.

Gerr is survived by his wife of 41 years, Linda; his daughters, Kassia and Danielle; his 9 grandchildren Cody, Izabella, Jake, Tanner, Selena, Aida, Reina, Grace, and Aricelis, who affectionately referred to him as “Poppy”; his brothers, Francis (Maureen), Jim, Paul (Christine); and sisters, Eileen Szczerba (Joe), Kathleen Hussey ( Bernie Bonk), Claire Azzanesi (Rudy), Marie Spadaro (Paul); his sister in law, Sharon; as well as many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Patrick.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am on Friday, March 16, 2018, at St. Elizabeth Church, Cedar and Clayton Streets, Wilmington, DE 19805. Interment will be private.
