Fred Esdale

Fred Esdale, age 93, died on July 14, 2017 peacefully with his family by his side.

 He was born in Bolton, England to George and Marion (Pickford) Esdale. Fred served his country proudly in the US Navy, on the USS Destroyer the Stratford in WWII. He was injured on the ship and was honorably discharged from service in 1942. Fred attended Trade School at Brown Vocational to become a skilled tradesman as a Tool and die maker. He worked for the automotive giant GM until retirement. He was an avid golfer who still walked 9 holes until his late 80’s . Fred spent many years after retirement at the Wilmington Country Club working part-time. He was a true gentleman who volunteered at the Humane Society walking dogs.

  He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Jack Esdale.

He is survived by his devoted wife Florence (Shivery) of 61 years and beloved children Mark (Marge), Lynn, Chris (Kathy) and Fred’s beloved granddaughters, Lindsay (Luis), Christa (Nick) and Kaitlyn. He also survived by two great grandsons, Cameron and Julian. Fred’s sister Sally resides in the Isle of Man, England.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday July 19 from 10-11 am at St Barnabas Church, 2800 Duncan Rd., Wilmington followed by a funeral service at 11. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery, Lancaster Ave., Wilmington.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributing to the Delaware Humane Society, 701 A St., Wilmington, DE 19801
