Francis J. Heeney, 85 of Wilmington, DE, passed away at home on Thursday, June 15, 2017.

Frank was born in the Bronx, NY, son of the late Francis and Anne (McArdle) Heeney. He was a graduate of Fordham University where he attained his Master’s Degree in History. Frank went on to enjoy a career as an insurance underwriter for All State Insurance.

Frank was a genuine family man. He met his late wife, Wini, at age 10 growing up in the Bronx. The two were married on May 2, 1964. Frank and Wini moved to Delaware in 1994, after their son, Brian, graduated from the University of Delaware. Frank never forgot his New York roots though; he read the NY Daily News every day to keep up with his beloved Mets and Giants. He enjoyed listening to AM talk and news radio and had a special interest in WWII naval history. Frank was a devout Catholic and parishioner of St. Matthew’s Parish but above all else, he was a dedicated and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.

Frank is survived by his son, Brian and his wife, Andrea; and his beloved granddaughter, Maddie.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife, Winifred (Evans) Heeney.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am on Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at St. Matthew’s Church, 901 E. Newport Pike, Wilmington, DE 19804, where family and friends may visit beginning at 10:00am. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Frank’s memory to a charity of your choice.
