Francis J. Ciemania, Sr.

Francis J. “Uncle Fran” Ciemania, Sr., 91 of Wilmington, DE peacefully passed away on Monday, May 18, 2015.

Francis was born in Wilmington on July 23, 1923, son of the late Angelo and Josephine (Lorenzo) Ciemania.  A proud veteran of the United States Army, he served our country during World War II and was stationed in the European Theatre.  Francis was employed with WSFS for 25 years and was a dedicated crossing guard with New Castle County for 10 years.  He was a member of St. Matthew Parish and the Rehoboth Beach VFW.  Francis especially enjoyed being with his son and daughter-in-law at the beach and spending time on the water.

Following the passing of his wife, Elizabeth (August) Ciemania in 1984, Francis became involved with Post Cana, Parents without Partners, Single Parents Association of Delaware and To Live Again (TLA).

He will be lovingly remembered by his son, Francis J. Ciemania, Jr. and his wife, Judi.  He is also survived by his sister, Dora West; and many nieces and nephews.

Francis was predeceased by nine siblings.

A graveside funeral service will be held in All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington on Thursday, May 21 at 11:00AM.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Francis may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 240 N. James St., #100-A, Newport, DE 19804.
