Florence J. Doherty

Florence J. Doherty, age 85, of Wilmington, DE, passed away on Sunday, May 22, 2016 at Kentmere Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center.

Born in Wilmington on February 13, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Walter Grodzicki and Helen (Rucinski) Grodzicki. She was a long-time employee of the DuPont Company, beginning her career in the secretarial pool and ending it as a customer service representative.

Mrs. Doherty graduated from St. Hedwig’s School and Wilmington High School. Music was a big part of her life. She took up the flute in the Pulaski Legion band as a young girl, was a member of the Brandywine Pops Orchestra for most of her adult life and was still playing music with friends just a few days before her death.

.In addition to her parents, Mrs. Doherty was preceded in death by her husband of more than 50 years, George Robert (Bob) Doherty, her brother William Grodzicki and her sister, Frances Hamill. She is survived by a daughter, Kathleen Doherty Turkel (Gerald), and son, Robert Doherty (Carol Tanck), five grandchildren: Eli and Helen Turkel, and Ryan, Kevin and Caitlin Doherty and numerous nieces and nephews.

A viewing for family and friends will be held from 9:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m., and be followed at 11 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, May 25, 2016, at Resurrection Catholic Church, 3000 Videre Dr, Wilmington, DE. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE.
