Etta Mae (Bonner) Monardo

Etta Mae Monardo, 89 of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully with her family at her side, on Wednesday, September 21, 2016.

She was born in Wilmington, daughter of the late Thomas E., Sr., and Etta Mae (Ingram) Bonner. Etta Mae worked for years as a cosmetologist but moreover dedicated her life to her family. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. We will miss her warm and welcoming smile and those beautiful blue eyes.

Etta Mae loved taking care of others, especially cooking and sharing those meals with family, friends, and many of those who may have needed it the most. She served her community through her work with her local church and with the Emmanuel Dining Room. In her free time, she enjoyed playing the slot machines whether on trips to Atlantic City, Dover Downs or to Delaware Park. Etta Mae also planned bus trips for seniors to Wildwood, NJ.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Joseph F. Monardo, Sr., the love of her life for 70 years; her sons, Vincent and his wife, Donna, and Joseph, Jr., and his wife, Denise; her granddaughter, Maria Dixon and her husband, Tom; her brothers, Peter and Joseph Trotto and his wife, Pat; her sisters-in-law, Barbara Cannatelli and Mae Ross; and many nieces and nephews and members of her extended family.

Etta Mae’s family would like to thank both the staff and the residents of Cadia Silverside for the compassion, care and friendship that they extended to her and continue to extend to her husband, Joe.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am on Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 4701 Weldin Road, Wilmington, DE 19803, where family and friends may visit beginning at 10:00am. Committal services will be held privately with Etta Mae’s family.

In lieu of flowers, her family suggests making contributions to the Wilmington VA Medical Center, 1601 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE 19805, the Emmanuel Dining Hall, 121 N. Jackson Street, Wilmington, DE 19805, or to Cadia Silverside, Residential Activities Department, 3322 Silverside Road, Wilmington, DE 19810.
