Eleanor M. (Mitchell) Bowers

April 10, 1934 ~ November 15, 2015 (age 81) 81 Years Old


Eleanor M. Bowers, age 81, of Wilmington, DE passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 15th, 2015, at St. Mary’s Hospice House in Athens, GA.

Eleanor was a member of St. James Episcopal Church and actively served for several years on the church bazaar committee. 

She was a loving, devoted, and supportive wife, mother, and grandmother who most enjoyed spending time with her family.  A talented cook, she often hosted family gatherings and loved decorating their home and beach house for such events.  Eleanor enjoyed travel, sewing, crocheting, gardening, and regular exercise - walking, swimming, and racquetball with friends.

Eleanor was predeceased by her loving husband of 56 years, Raymond F. “Pete” Bowers.

She is survived by her children: Raymond F. Bowers, Jr., and his fiancee, Lynn; Vicki B. Hall and her husband, Mark Hall; Scott M. Bowers and his wife, Lisa Surbrook; her grandchildren: Emily, Audrey, Lindsey, Taylor, Kyle, Elisabeth, Shannon and Dylan; her great-grandchildren: Hannah, Sawyer, Amelia and Margeaux; and by her sister, Frances Mitchell Bradley.

Visitation will be held at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Wilmington, DE  19808 on Tuesday evening, November 24, from 5pm to 7pm. A funeral service will be held at St. James Episcopal Church, 2106 St. James Church Road Wilmington, DE  19808 on Wednesday, November 25, at 12noon.  Burial will follow in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Bear, DE. 

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Eleanor may be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association of DE, 240 N. James Street, Suite 100-A, Newport, DE  19804.
