Catherine Elaine Berry, 76 of Newark, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 30, 2016 surrounded by her loving family.

Elaine was born June 29, 1939 in Wilmington. She spent her career with Take-A-Break, Inc., until her retirement several years ago.

Elaine most enjoyed spending her free time with her family and old friends from the Flats. She looked forward to the annual Flats Reunion and was active on the planning committee. Elaine was affectionately known as “Aunt Dee” by her nieces and nephews and could always be found with a camera in hand, capturing the memories at all of the family gatherings. She was an avid baker who enjoyed watching Food Network and making the desserts for her family holiday parties. She also enjoyed building jigsaw puzzles and traveling with her nieces and nephews on family vacations. While all of these things brought her enjoyment, she was happiest when simply surrounded by the children in her family.

Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Catherine (Briggs) Berry; and her brothers-in-law, Paul Layton and Harold Cooper. She is survived by her brothers, Thomas and his wife, Nancy of Newark, Michael and his wife, Maureen , and Francis, all of Wilmington; her sisters, Diane Layton of Newark, with whom she lived, and Rosemary Fitzpatrick and her husband, Mark of Wilmington. She will be especially missed by her 17 nieces and nephews; 28 great nieces and nephews; and 7 great-great nieces and nephew.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am on Thursday, February 4, 2016 at St. John the Beloved Church, 907 Milltown Road, Wilmington, DE 19808, where family and friends may visit beginning at 10:00am. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery.
