Edward J. Szumowski, pastor and Bible school teacher, went to be with the Lord on Sunday morning, August 21, 2016.  It was fitting that he went at 10:00 a.m. on a Sunday morning, as that was when his church services always began.

Pastor Ed Szumowski was “Born Again” on April 10, 1972 and his life was radically transformed.  He had been raised a Catholic, and actually desired to enter the priesthood as a young boy, but God had other plans for him.

While Ed was at Salesianum, he met a young girl named, Carolyn, and the rest of the story is history. They married, had 5 children through the years, and now have 9 grandchildren.

Ed's early years were spent in pharmaceutical sales. He had been prepped for a career in pharmacy at Temple University. He was also active, during that time, in search and rescue with the Coast Guard Auxiliary. He had an avid interest in boating and community service. He even taught safe boating classes.

God used those times to prepare Ed for his calling to be a Pastor/Teacher.  He learned how to relate to others in all kinds of situations, how to present a clear message when he taught, and how to go beyond his "comfort zone", because by nature, he was very quiet and did not like to be the one in front of a group of people.

After his born again experience, his boat was no longer his priority, so he sold it and completely devoted himself to the study of the Word.  He became a teacher at 2 different Bible schools and cherished every moment, because as he said, the students were so hungry to learn. The more receptive the students were, the more he poured into them.

He began teaching at Pinecrest/Bethany Bible Training Center in Salisbury Center, NY in the 80's and became a member of the Board as well. When Word of Life Christian Center began their Word of Life School of Ministry in Newark, DE, he had the privilege of serving there as a teacher, as well. He also had the honor of serving on the Board for the Word of Life School of Ministry.

During those years, he also faithfully served his church congregation in Hockessin DE.  Despite his busy schedule, he was always available for his family and friends.  He was a faithful companion to his wife for 58 years before his passing on August 21, 2016 when he entered into eternal glory.

He will be remembered by many for his ready wit. He knew how to add a smile and some laughter to your day.  He will be missed by many who loved him, but there will be a joyous reunion one day in the presence of our heavenly Father.
