David J. Welsh

David J. Welsh, 78 of Wilmington, DE peacefully passed away on Tuesday, May 9, 2017.

Dave was born in Chester, PA on November 27, 1938, son of the late David and Rose (Cummings) Welsh.  He honorably served our country as a member of the United States Marine Corps with the rank of Corporal.   A proud member of the Teamsters, he worked as a truck driver with Delaware Beverage Company and NKS Distributors.  Dave was also very proud of his Irish heritage, a passionate Notre Dame fan and a member of the New Castle County Irish Society.  In addition, he was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Parish, the American Legion Stahl Post, the Defiance Athletic Association and the Stapler Athletic Association.

Dave is survived by his daughter, Pamela George and husband, David; his grandchildren, Taylor, Samantha and Jonathan George, JD, Robert and Wayne Welsh; his former wife and friend, Donna Sue Welsh.  He is also survived by his companion, Diane; his step sister, Patricia; and his half siblings, Tim, Mimi and Debbie.

Sadly, Dave was predeceased by his son, David Scott Welsh.

Family and friends are invited to visit at the Doherty Funeral Home, 1900 Delaware Avenue, Wilmington on Tuesday, May 16 from 5:00-7:00PM.  Funeral services and interment in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery will be held privately.
