David C. Saxton

David C. Saxton, age 77, of Newark passed away on Friday, January 20, 2017 surrounded by loved ones at Christiana Hospital in Newark, Delaware.  He was the husband of Janette (Cook) Saxton, with whom he shared 53 years of marriage.

David received an honorable discharge from the United States Marine Corps after six years of service.  He retired in 2003 from UFCW Local 27 as a Union Representative.  David was an avid lover of music, golf and fishing.  A softball umpire for 23 years, he was inducted into the Delaware A.S.A. National Indicator Fraternity in 1992 and participated in the 1983 National Sports Festival, the 1987 Men’s  A Modified Pitch, the 1988 Women’s Major Fast Pitch, and the 1991 Pan American Games Tryouts. 

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Daniel Saxton, Sr.; his grandchildren, Daniel Saxton, Jr. and Amber Nicole Saxton; his brother, Charles Saxton (Patty); many nieces and nephews.  David was preceded in death by his parents, David D. Saxton and Marie T. (Doherty) Saxton.

Friends are invited to visit at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek on Wednesday, January 25 from 10:00-11:00AM.  A Celebration of Life Service will begin at 11:00AM, followed by interment in Longwood Cemetery, Kennett Square, PA.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of David may be made to the American Cancer Society, 92 Reads Way, New Castle, DE 19720.
