Welcome to the memorial page for

David Kenneth Roberts

November 19, 1949 ~ July 17, 2016 (age 66) 66 Years Old

David Kenneth Roberts, age 66, of Hockessin passed away at home on Sunday July 17, 2016. He was born in Brooklyn, NY, to the late Thomas Godfrey Roberts, Jr. and Matilda Rottman Roberts. David grew up in Seaford NY, attended Hamilton College in Clinton, NY, graduated from Ursinus College in Collegeville, PA, with a BA in English summa cum laude, and graduated from Westminster Seminary in Philadelphia, PA, with an MA in Biblical Languages. Most of his career was spent in the education field. He taught everything from fourth grade boys at a private boys' boarding school in Aiken, SC, to the junior college level, most recently at Delaware Technical Community College Wilmington Campus. He also worked for the International Reading Association (now the International Literacy Association) for 15 years, ending as Managing Editor of their large website.

There were 2 main themes in David's life. The first was communing with God through nature. He had no formal religious training until his twenties, but he recognized God's spirit in every facet of nature. Some refer to nature as the fifth gospel - for many years this was David's only gospel and he learned the lessons by heart. The other theme of David's life was serving others. His love for teaching was only one manifestation of this. Yet another was being an absolutely devoted father and, in time, a devoted grandfather. David lived to serve others in every area of his life.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly K. Roberts of Hockessin, daughter Liz Roberts Cackowski (Mike) of Wilmington, grandson John Cackowski of Wilmington, brother Michael Roberts (Chris) of Woodsville, NH, sister-in-law Linda Tetro (Rene) of Lansdale, PA, brother-in-law David Klingensmith of Republic, WA, aunt Rolaine Rottman of Merrick,NY, as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life Mass will be held at Resurrection Parish, 3000 Videre Dr, Wilmington, DE 19808 on Friday July 22, 2016 at 11 am. Visitation will start at 10 am. Burial will be private at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please give donations to Jesus House 2501 Milltown Rd, Wilmington, DE 19808 or to Contemplative Outreach, 10 Park Place, 2nd Floor, Suite B, Butler, NJ 07405.
