Charles Patrick Rocha

Charles P. Rocha, 55, of Landenberg, PA, passed away peacefully on January 17, 2018, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Attleboro, Massachusetts, Charlie earned a Bachelor of Science in International Economics and Finance from Georgetown University, School of Foreign Service, and had nearly 30 years working in the financial services industry, culminating with his current position of Chief Marketing Officer for SallieMae, in Newark, DE.

Prior to SallieMae, Charlie was responsible for strategic planning and profitability for U.S. card, consumer finance, and small business lending at Bank of America. Charlie also held various business development, credit and collections management roles in consumer lending at MBNA America, and he spent 10 years at NationsBank in various leadership positions in retail finance and leasing.

He was recently appointed as Chairman of the Board at Guidewell Financial Solutions in Baltimore, Maryland.

Charlie was a history buff and avid reader, and enjoyed traveling. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family, and considered himself the luckiest man on earth to be so adored by his greatest gifts: his children and grandchildren. He was a completely devoted husband, Dad and Poppy.

He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Christine X. Rocha, four daughters: Monica X. Asbeil (Nathanial), Ellen H. James (Ryan), Mary-Claire C. Howarth (Clint), and Bridget C. Rocha, and two grandchildren. Survivors also include his father, David L. Rocha, Sr., two brothers and one sister. He was predeceased by his mother, the former Mary Ann Flaherty.

A viewing will take place from 5 to 7 PM on Monday, January 22 at Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Wilmington, DE. A celebration of Charlie’s life will take place at 11 AM on Tuesday, January 23 at the funeral home, followed by interment at All Saint’s Cemetery.
