Catherine Calhoun Garst, 92, of New Castle, DE passed away on Friday, April 7, 2017.

Catherine was born in Wilmington, DE on December 17, 1924, daughter of the late Francis and Mary (Taylor) Calhoun.  She was employed with Wilmington Trust and retired after 25 years of service.  A loving and devoted homemaker, Catherine took great pride in caring for her family and her home, and especially loved spending time with her beloved grandchildren.  She enjoyed decorating, gardening and was an avid Phillies and Eagles fan.  Catherine was a devout Catholic who attended Our Lady of Fatima Church, and more recently enjoyed attending Holy Spirit Church.

Her husband of 43 years, Charles C. Garst, Jr., passed away on January 9, 1996.

Catherine will be dearly missed by her children, Rev. Charles C. Garst III, OSFS, Carol Ann Gallagher and husband, Paul, Michael F. Garst and wife, Charlotte, Diane M. Slatcher and husband, Craig; her grandchildren, Lauren Wolkowicz and husband, Isaac, Ryan Gallagher, Dyllon Slatcher, Connor Slatcher; and her great grandson, Nolan Wolkowicz.  She is also survived by her sister, Anne Craighton and husband, Leroy; as well as nieces, nephews and their families.

Catherine was predeceased by her siblings, Francis, Joseph and Mary Calhoun.

Family and friends are invited to visit at Holy Spirit Church, 12 Winder Road, New Castle on Wednesday, April 12 from 10:30AM-12:00PM.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:15PM, followed by interment in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Catherine may be made to the Oblates of St. Francis de Sales Retirement Fund, 2200 Kentmere Parkway, Wilmington, DE 19806 (www.oblates.org).
