Carol (Honaker) Gibson

Carol Gibson, 60, of Newark, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on February 17, 2017, after a long battle with cancer. 

She was born in Bainbridge, MD, daughter of the late Charles F. and Avis L. (Sheehy) Honaker. 

Carol enjoyed a career in the accounting services field, most recently with W.L. Gore, retiring in 2016. 

She enjoyed boating along the Chesapeake Bay and vacationing in St. Michael’s and Annapolis. Carol was a talented artisan; she never let an occasion go by without hand-crafting a special gift for a special recipient. She loved painting and working with stained glass. Her generosity was without limits. Above all else, she cherished the time she spent with her family, especially her beloved granddaughter, Claire Elizabeth, who inspired Carol to combat her illness with relentless drive and determination. 

Carol is survived by her husband, Stephen P. Gibson; her son, Matthew S. Gibson and his wife, Laura; her daughter, Crystal Gibson; her most precious granddaughter, Claire E. Gibson; her sister, Lynette Brown (Josh); her brothers, Charles Ray Honaker (Sally), David Honaker and John Bustard (Kathy); her mother-in-law, Joyce Gibson; several brothers and sisters-in-law; and many nieces, nephews and members of her extended family. 

In addition to her parents, Carol was preceded in death by her brother, John Wayne Honaker; and father-in-law, Joseph F. Gibson. 

The Gibson Family would like to thank the entire staff at Medical Oncology Hematology Consultants, especially Dr. Himmelstein and Dana Miller and also Delaware Hospice, especially Beth, Reverend Andrea, Linda, Melissa and Paula for their expert care of Carol. 

A funeral service will be held at 7:00pm on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Wilmington, DE 19808, where family and friends may visit beginning at 5:00pm. Interment will be held privately.
