Carmen M. (Cann) Zakutny

It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of our mother, Carmen Marie Zakutny, age 87, who passed away peacefully on May 15, 2017. 

Carmen was born on July 9, 1929 in Wilmington, DE to the late Joseph and Sara (Lynch) Cann. Carmen graduated from Wilmington High School in 1948. She was a lifelong member of Corpus Christi Church.

Carmen enjoyed traveling, reading and spending time with family and friends. She had an amazing memory and loved to recount wonderful stories about her life, her family and her friends. 

In addition to her parents, Carmen was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Zakutny; her son, Joseph Zakutny; her brother, Howard Cann; and her granddaughter, Alanna Riess.

Loving and devoted to her family, she will be dearly missed by her daughter, Mary Riess and her husband Gary of Newark; her son, Mark Zakutny of Newark; her daughter, Judy Paintner and her husband Mark of Teaneck, NJ; her daughter, Christine Zakutny of Wilmington; her son, John Zakutny and his wife Maria of Bear, her grandchildren, Christopher Riess and wife Kristie; Sara Zakutny; Matthew Zakutny and wife Monika; Michelle Riess; Joseph Zakutny; Michael Paintner; Kimberly Paintner; her great-grandchildren, Patrick, Peyton, Chase and Oliver and her nephews, David Pcsolar, John Pcsolar, Robert Cann and their families

Family and friends are invited to the visitation on Friday, May 19 from 5:00-7:30PM at the Doherty Funeral Home, 1900 Delaware Avenue, Wilmington. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, May 20 at 10:00AM at Corpus Christi Church, 905 New Road, Elsmere. Burial will be in Cathedral Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the American Diabetes Association , 150 Monument Road, # 100, Bala Cynwyd, PA 19004 (www.diabetes.org).
