Carl Jensen, 87, of Wilmington, DE, died Thursday, May 25, after a short illness, surrounded by family. He was born on January 28, 1930, to Carl and Madelin Jensen and grew up in Verona, NJ. He served in the Air Force as a radio operator in Newfoundland, Canada, during the Korean War. He was a graduate of Verona High School and Gettysburg College (magna cum laude).
Carl was the co-founder and owner of JayCee Laboratories, a flavor manufacturer in Linden, NJ. After selling the business, he combined his love of boating with his business skills and purchased Laurel Harbor Marina in Lacey Township, NJ.
He had many interests and hobbies, including fishing, boat building, model airplane flying, and shooting sporting clays. Skiing, tennis and biking the Jersey Shore gave him great pleasure. He also enjoyed taking cruises and spending time on Nantucket Island.
His greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Kay Baker Jensen; his son Jeff Jensen and wife Patti of San Francisco, CA; and his daughter Lynn Jensen Worden and husband Kevin O’Hara of Avondale, PA. Carl had four grandchildren, whom he adored: Ben and Krista Worden, Kirk and Anya Jensen, and a beloved great-granddaughter Alivia.
A memorial service will be held in August at the Presbyterian Church at Shrewsbury, NJ. Contributions in Carl’s memory may be made to the American Humane Society (www.americanhumane.org) or Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (www.alexslemonade.org).
