Arland J. Lane, Sr., age 77, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side, on Tuesday, June 30, 2015, after a courageous two-year battle with cancer.

Born on July 10, 1937, in Wilmington, Delaware, he was the son of the late Myrtle (Saylor) and Andrew J. Lane.  Growing up in Cranston Heights, Arlie attended Marshallton and Conrad.  He and his father worked together for over 40 years as A. Lane and Son, Weatherstripping and Caulking.  In 1997 at age 60 he began working for Paragon Engineering and continued for 17 years.  Arlie proudly served our country in the United States Navy Reserves for over 30 years, retiring in 1997.

Always interested in carpentry and wood carving, Arlie produced fine furniture, various remodeling projects, carved carousel animals displayed on a six foot working carousel, which has been shown at  Auburn Heights, Yorklyn, and a life-size carousel horse, models of Brandywine Springs Park and Fort Christina, and a working model of the Delta Queen.  He was one of the founders and on the Board of Directors of Friends of Brandywine Springs.  Arlie enjoyed dancing, fishing, playing guitar and was a very proud father and grandfather.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 49 years, Patricia Burke Lane; his son, Arland, Jr. and Debbie Edmiston; daughter, Kimberley Lane Fleming and her husband, Galen; sister, Karen Lane and husband, Charlie Katterfield; and brother, Barry Lane.  He is also survived by his loving grandchildren, Michael and Joey Fleming.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his younger brother, Andrew,

Family and friends are invited to visit at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek on Monday, July 6 from 5:00-7:00PM and on Tuesday, July 7 from 10:00-11:00AM.  Funeral services will begin at 11:00AM.  Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery.

The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the doctors and nurses at Christiana Hospital, Newark and Wilmington, for their unwavering dedication to his care.   Also, thanks to VNA and Seasons Hospice for their gentle care and kind support.
